Giant Cement Angel Stole My Heart...
in the Jewish Cemetery, which I never knew until recently that it was the Jewish Cemetery...
and the adoring daughter (or if not that, then who is she--the mother or ??) with a Mother & Father grave wreath in each hand on the steps going up to the angel, to heaven possibly...
It's here I get very curious...who is the artist/the sculpture of this monumental family crypt...my questions only begin to add up...
her face covered in a shroud, which must be something very difficult to create in a sculpture...
These wings are truly glorious...I'm not sure I've ever seen angel wings sculpted to look so much like birds wings, or maybe I've just never noticed, but I'm feeling like these are a spectacular set of wings...
I also cannot begin to tell you how many years I've driven by this cemetery, peered thru the gate/the fence from the car & looked over to stare a few minutes, meditatively almost, if possible longer just to see this angel & the angel's wings...now this day, years later I'm given the secret to enter & I cannot while there seem to stop taking photos...thank you tourguide angel (betcha' didn't know there was one of those did ya'?) for bringing me in here--your ever grateful resident tourist?!
This & the next two photos are my fav & they make me feel like I'm in a secret garden...looking in from the garden fence thru the greenery to the adoration of an angel, only you can't see the angel from here...the vine is circled on the fence in the last shot & begs to be looked thru to see into the hidden garden to where the angel stands beyond... (Oh, I could so write a story...)
The end of adoration of the cement angel in the Jewish Cemetery...
but not too surprisenly there are others in the cemetery, not stood over by guardian angels I'm afraid, but there are more questions to be asked & I think stories begging to be told in here...ah but for the information I was told that the Synagogue is crumbling, if even standing anylonger - so I'd ask myself whom is there left in town to ask questions of then?! hmmm... (scratches head--then moves on to add more photos for the 'rest of the Jewish Cemetery Story...)
I, too, peer in as I drive by; wanting to stop for a longer look. What's the secret to get in?
ReplyDeleteShh...it's a secret--please e-mail me & I'll tell all or we can meet up & I'll show you, as I was shown by someone I found on Twitter that knew about this cemetery & a whole lot more of them (which I'm sorry to say I haven't explored more when even offered a tour--or not yet)...but we must all remember to be respectful as it is a resting place - sorry it's taken me so long to reply, didn't have this comment show up on my home page for some reason or somehow in any case missed it?!
